Pier's Desire

Set in contemporary Avignon, France, PIERS' DESIRE is the story of a Montreal-born thriller writer, named Piers Le Gris. Piers is living in a draughty mansion owned by Nelly Reboul, a beautiful French woman in her seventies and when Nelly's seductive 17-year-old niece Magali moves into the house, their quiet life is disrupted by her sensuality. Piers quickly becomes deeply entwined in the intrigue surrounding Magali's relationship with her obsessive and violent Arab boyfriend, and fears for both Magali and himself. Magali has the separate yet equal effect on both Piers and Nelly, of jarring open a door to the long buried past, and of bringing up old regrets and losses, while stirring a desire in the present that has long lain dormant. Lust, love, and loss all spring to the surface, with the city of Avignon and its multi-faceted personality, a background so richly realized that the town seems as alive as any of its vivid inhabitants.
