Summary

Choosing to survive, Seeds of Hope For Abused Children of All Ages by Janice L. Barrett is not only a touching story of the life of abused children and the roles they assume, but also a non-overwhelming yet helpful guide for those in and around abusive situations.

Author Biography

Janice L. Barrett has always had a desire to provide protection to those who were unable to protect themselves. In 2004, she lost three immediate relatives within a six month period, all due to substance abuse. They had the commonality of beginning their lives as abused children. It was then that she came face to face with her own abusive childhood and had to know why she had better survived it when others in the family did not. She began to research the statistics and studies of child abuse in relation to her own experience. Janice believes that the cycle can be broken and thus utilized her years of research, medical knowledge and personal experiences to keep others from suffering the fate that she has witnessed, in her book 'Choosing To Survive, Seeds of Hope For Abused Children of All Ages'.Janice spent her working years in the care giving professions. Initially interested in nursing, she discovered her talents were best used in the administrative aspect of medical care, as she is a problem solver. In 1992, Janice founded a business in Sun City, Arizona, called The Patient's Advocate, managing medical billing paperwork for patients only, providing financial protection to her clients. During these years Janice gave many public presentations and received a lot of media attention. She sold her business and retired in 2000.Janice currently resides in Glendale, Arizona with her husband, Chuck, where she lectures and works to make the community aware of this social problem.
