Chimera

In addition to the narration of his daily life in the concentration camps, the author jotted down the thoughts, impressions, and feelings of the young idealistic boy that he was then. The boy who was suddenly taken from one world and transplanted in another completely alien one. Like millions of other people he would never have believed that such a world existed. After two darkest years of his life he emerged from this hell realizing to just what extent the human conscience can be debased, to what levels of degradation a human being can be led, and how much can be endured to secure one's survival.

After the end of the Second World War, just three months shy of his eighteenth birthday, and a scant five months after having been released from Buchenwald Concentration Camp, Isaac Bourla in September of 1945 settled in Israel (then Palestine)and continued his life-long study of languages. Recently retired from a career of over forty years as an Israeli travel guide, who has led groups from all over the world, he lives in Tel-Aviv with his wife, Anne. The couple together has four children and six grandchildren.
