Research in the Decision Sciences for the Service Economy Best Papers from the 2015 Annual Conference

The papers in this volume present state-of-the-art quantitative and qualitative research, empirical findings, best practices, and conceptual models to support better decision making throughout any service organization. Selected as the best work presented at the 2015 annual conference of the European regional subdivision of the Decision Sciences Institute (EDSI), they offer an invaluable cross-disciplinary perspective that will be relevant to all facets of service production, including organization, management, operations, information systems, marketing, HR, supply chains, and beyond.

EDSI, the European regional subdivision of the Decision Sciences Institute, was founded in 2009 to link European academicians and practitioners and provide a common platform for presenting and sharing research in decision processes across disciplines. CARMELA DI MAURO (Catania, Italy) is Associate Professor in Managerial Engineering at the University of Catania. She is currently an executive board member at EDSI, and a member of DSI’s Strategic Planning for International Affairs Committee. Her research focuses on health care organization and management, organizational behavior, public administration, purchasing of local public services, and behavioral operations. She holds a Ph.D. from York University (UK). ALESSANDRO ANCARANI (Catania, Italy) is Associate Professor in Managerial Engineering at the University of Catania. He is co-editor in chief of The Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, and a member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Public Procurement. He has been President of the International Purchasing & Supply Education & Research Association (IPSERA). His research interests are in customer satisfaction in service provision, public procurement, supplier performance evaluation, behavioral operations, analysis of intangibles in public service organizations, and evaluation of hospital performance. GYULA VASTAG (GyQr, Hungary) is Professor at Széchenyi University. He has served as Professor at Pannon University, Managing Director of the Corvinus School of Management at Corvinus University of Budapest, and Professor and Area Coordinator of Operations and Supply Chain Management at the CEU Business School. A Founding Member and Member of the Executive Board of EDSI, he is VP for Global Activities of DSI, where he has served as conference program and track chair. He was Founding Editor of the Pannon Management Review, is Associate Editor of the Decision Sciences Journal, and serves on the editorial board of the Central European Business Review and Vezetéstudomány.
