Summary

Have you ever wanted to be friends with a dog who would bark and run away? Maybe it's a rescued dog. Adopting may come with some challenges, but they become so appreciative and loving once they know they're at their forever home! Here's a story about a rescued dog named Dixie and how she learned to trust a family friend. This non-fiction, endearing book tracks the progression of a one-year-old dog who was rescued from the streets of Georgia by a shelter in Gloucester, MA. The author, Helen Retynsky Kamins and her two sons Daniel and James, consider adopting a dog despite Mom's (Helen's) continued sadness oover their loss of their black Labrador Retreiver names Saba. This new addition to the family, named 'Dixie' has gotten used to her immediate family but has troubles dealing with other people. A close family friend named Rob often comes by the family house offering to join in walks with Dixie. A professional and published writer, Robert Dinsmoor, generally writes about everyday experiences. Hence, the walks with Helen and Dixie translated to individual, delightful stories. When Helen asked if he could compile just the stories specific to Dixie, they realized that there was, indeed, quite a bit of charming text on the subject. Helen, knowing that she would be unable to walk for several months due to a scheduled operation, looked forward to working on visually illustrating Rob's words. "DOES DIXIE LIKE ME?" became their product.
