Summary

English summary: The basic right to submit a petition has been exercised by increasingly more people since the end of the Second World War. Of the nearly 19,200 petitions filed with the state government of Baden-Wurttemburg between 1946 and 1980, nearly 8 percent on average dealt with issues of health and sickness. Following a survey of the individual problems and their quantitative manifestations, Sylvelyn Hahner-Rombach analyzes the exact petitions, which arose from the penal system. Here it is clearly shown among other things, the possibilities to use sickness as a resource and health as an instrument. The perspective of patient history gives a hint on the symbolic meaning of bodies and conceptions about the cause and development of sickness and health. The study also makes visible patterns of action as they occur under the terms of detention in a penal institution. The investigation concludes with a diagnosis of the source material or petitions for a social history of medicine. 193p (Franz Steiner Verlag 2011)
