Devotionals are meant to lead you to a place where your heart is directed toward the Father. They are written and designed to lead you into times of intimacy with Him. When you're done reading, if all you do is close the book and say "that was good", you have missed the point. The word devotional comes from the root word devotion, which means "a profound dedication or consecration to something or someone". The word devotional is defined as "a short, religious service". When you put those together, your daily devotional should be a time where you participate in a short service dedicating and consecrating yourself to God.Every day of your life God wants to fellowship with you. He does not want you to have a "religious" experience, but rather a personal, life-changing encounter. The busyness of the day can drown out the voice of God, leaving you feeling empty and unsatisfied. However, there is a place of fulfillment that each of us can experience--a place where the cries and desires of our hearts are satisfied.Most people had what I like to call a "sweet conversion", a salvation experience marked as a time of pureness and intimacy with God. They prayed often and had a deep hunger for the Word of God, fellowshipping often with the saints. Today, many have gotten away from the sweet communion of the Holy Ghost and live their lives independent of the presence of God. God didn't change. They did. But thank God that He's drawing us back to our place of hunger and personal intimacy with Him.
