Summary

This gorgeously photographed book offers a window into the finest courses on Long Island, with relatable tips and entertaining commentary for the average golfer.

Most golfers only dream of playing at Bethpage Black, Shinnecock Hills, Fishers Island, or the National Golf Links of America. With fascinating history, unique traditions, and courses designed by acclaimed architects, it's no wonder that Long Island is one of the world's most celebrated and exclusive golf destinations.

Peter Gray, a middle handicapper and self-described weekend warrior, has nonetheless golfed his way around this mecca of the game and has the cherished memories — and misadventures — to prove it.

Part amusing travelogue, part scenic showcase, Golfing Long Island: The Weekend Warrior's Companion lifts the curtain on this prestigious golf capital and brims with the same beauty, character, and sheer fun exemplified by the courses it depicts.

Featuring breathtaking photography from Laurence Lambrecht alongside insightful commentary and practical guidance, this distinctive book will have golf enthusiasts packing their clubs, booking tee times, and charting their own pilgrimage in celebration of this singular game.

Author Biography

Peter Gray is an environmental lawyer and published author with an abiding passion for golf and golf course architecture. As a longtime veteran international golf course rater for Golfweek magazine, he has rated hundreds of courses in the United States and overseas. He is also a member of several golf architectural societies including the Donald Ross Society and the Tillinghast Association.

Although Mr. Gray is a middle handicapper, he has played many of the world’s Top 100 courses. His perspective on the playability of golf courses is one that has been missing for readers—the perspective of the average golfer. This book presents that missing perspective.

Laurence Lambrecht has been traveling the world for the past 25 years capturing the beauty of the golf landscape. His work has been featured in numerous periodicals, golf calendars and coffee table books. He was awarded the Photographer of the Year by Boardroom Magazine and is also in the NFL Hall of Fame for Photo of the Year in 1992.
