Author Biography

Jonathan Gennick is an independent consultant specializing in Oracle technologies. He got his start with relational database systems in 1990, first working with Ingres, and then later with Digital's Rdb software. In 1994, he made the leap to Oracle and hasn't looked back since. He spends much of his time providing database administration services, as well as server-side PL/SQL support, to clients. When he isn't working with Oracle, Jonathan can often be found writing about it. Since 1997, he has been involved with a number of writing projects. He coauthored the first edition of the book Teach Yourself PL/SQL in 21 Days. He was the technical editor for Oracle8 Server Unleashed (SAMS, 1998) and the development editor for Teach Yourself Access 2000 in 24 Hours (SAMS, 1999). His second book, Oracle SQL*Plus, The Definitive Guide, was published in 1999. In addition to coauthoring the second edition of this book, Jonathan continues to be involved in various other writing and editing projects. Carol McCullough-Dieter lives in Portland, Oregon, with her family. She is a consultant for the Pacific Disaster Center, a federally funded project for aiding in disaster mitigation and recovery serving Hawaii and many Pacific Island countries. She has written several online tutorials covering the Oracle DBA Certification exams for DigitalThink.com. She enjoys painting watercolor portraits and volunteering at her son's school. Carol has authored all of the Oracle books in the ...For Dummies series, beginning with Oracle7 For Dummies five years ago. She also co-authored several other books on Oracle software for IDG Books Worldwide, including the Oracle8i DBA Bible, Oracle8Developer's Guide, and Creating Cool Web Databases Gerrit-Jan Linker is a self-employed systems programmer analyst and is currently working for Manchester Airport in the UK. Graduating as a computational chemist in 1995, he used Fortran 77 intensively on UNIX for his computations. In his first job as a trainee at a software house in the Netherlands, he was introduced to Oracle and the developer/2000 toolset. Since then, he has fully specialized in Oracle PL/SQL programming and database interfacing. Presently, he designs and implements database systems using Oracle, VB, and C on the Windows NT platform. As a hobby, Gerrit-Jan started to write Windows programs in Visual Basic after he graduated. Now, four years later, half a dozen commercial programs are available from his Web site. It's not surprising that his most successful program is Oracle related -- Oraxcel -- his add-on that gives full Oracle access to Microsoft Excel.
