Summary

Text in Spanish and English. These stories offer a rare and haunting glimpse of the fears, hopes, thoughts, and dreams of school children living in one of the western hemisphere's most violent and vibrant cultures. Featuring pieces written by students ranging from 10 to 16 years of age, this book presents a child's perspective on the standard of living in the poor Cazucá neighbourhood of the sprawling Bogota suburb Soacha. The stories are presented in their original Spanish and a carefully translated English that preserves the colloquial dialect, and are interspersed with black-and-white photographs of the writers in their neighbourhood. Proceeds from this publication will fund scholarships to enable these young writers to complete their high school education.
