Author Biography

Dean Armstrong QC Dean is co-Head of Chambers at 36 Group. Dean is an accomplished silk who has real-world commercial experience garnered in the City of London. Sources applaud him for his superior client service, mastery of the facts in a case, and effective advocacy. His recent work includes defending allegations of tax fraud and money laundering. He is experienced in cases with significant international elements He is a regular commentator on legal matters both for Sky and BBC TV as well as on the radio and has recently been a contributor on cyber matters on BBC Business breakfast briefing. Dean lectures extensively on all matters cyber and, in recent times, has advised high profile entities on GDPR and the consequences of a data breach. He is co-author of Blockchain and Cyrptocurrency: International Legal and Regulatory Challenges (Bloomsbury Professional, August 2019) and Cyber Litigation (Bloomsbury Professional, due to publish July 2020). Thomas Steward Tom is a barrister at 36 Group. He has a wealth of experience in all areas of shipping. He is frequently instructed to appear in arbitration or in the High Court. He previously taught the International Trade module for the BPTC course at BPP University in London, and has undertaken secondments at several of the major shipping firms in London. Tom's experience covers all the major arbitral institutions (LMAA, LCIA, SCMA, ICC) and includes: cargo claims, charterparty disputes (including speed and performance claims, late/early redelivery claims, laytime/demurrage claims, unsafe port claims, bunker disputes), claims under contracts of affreightment, shipbuilding and ship conversion cases, offshore disputes (including cases involving Supplytime and Towcon form contracts). Shyam Thakerar Shyam is a barrister at 36 Group. Shyam has a wide-ranging civil practice, focusing predominantly on commercial litigation. He is regularly instructed to appear as sole counsel in the High Court, County Court and various first-tier tribunals. Shyam has proved himself able to grapple with complex cases and is regularly instructed to advise, draft statements of case and to deal with pre-action matters. Prior to joining the Bar, Shyam undertook an internship at the Home Office within the Strategic Centre for Organised Crime during which he carried out work that was presented to cabinet ministers and was in regular contact with senior civil servants.
