Michael Petrocelli comes by his love for his hometown and for books honestly, as son of the owners of San Francisco's wonderful Book Passage store.

Maxine Cass, also a San Francisco native, went south to the University of California, Santa Barbara, to discover a wide world while earing a dual degree in history and Medieval studies. After a stint in the Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa, she returned to San Francisco, where she has worked as a freelance writer, photographer, and guidebook writer for more than two decades.
