Summary

This book consists of a number of articles and talks written and given by David Wemhoff on important cultural issues of the day. Embryonic stem cell research, abortion, homosexual rights, and a lot more have their roots in religious error. Instead of wasting our time and resources on secular political activism, Catholics should see these issues -- and America that gave birth to this culture of death -- as based on fundamental error. This error can only be corrected by adherence to the teachings of the One, True Church which is the Roman Catholic Church. Catholics do not need to pretend to be someone or something they are not -- such as Republican, or Democrat, or conservative, or liberal, or pro-life. Catholics just need to be Catholics.

Excerpts

And it became clear to me that the desire to end abortion was not a Republican thing. For instance, all the Republican women had formed their own Republican Women's club and were for abortion, as they looked at anyone who spoke out against abortion as a kook or a nut. Then there were the polite, but cold comments and averted looks of the State Republican platform committee members who pretended to listen to each of us as we came up and spoke of the need to have the end of abortion placed as a goal of the state party and a plank in the state party platform. Somehow, our many comments never made a difference in changing the Indiana GOP's platform to call for an end to abortion. Then there was the meeting with the GOP State party chairman in 2002 with a number of other pro-lifers to impress on him the need to end abortion. The chairman sat there like a chair, revealing by his body language that he could not wait for the meeting to end so he could get back to working with important people and advancing the interests of those who he really cared about. Then there was the endless talk of war and tax cuts by GW Bush, for whom so many of us had been bamboozled into supporting thinking that he would advance the life and family agenda. It was incomprehensible how the pro-life party, the Republican Party, which had complete control of the Congress and the White House for at least four years could not seem to pass any substantial legislation to save babies or help families. In October, 2003 Bush said the country was not ready for an end to abortion because the culture had not changed to allow such a result, but GW never did anything to change the culture so that it would repudiate abortion. He ignored Mark Crutcher, President of Life Dynamics Incorporated, when the latter sent a letter and tens of thousands of signatures to the White House calling for something to be done about abortion such as the appointment of a blue ribbon commission to study how it could be ended. Bush just never seemed to get around to give priority to pushing the life issue with Congress or judicial appointments. Then there was the never-ending ascension and promotion of pro-abortion individuals as GOP candidates and party officials to positions of prominence in the party or government. The Republicans did not care about abortion, unborn kids were getting ground up at the rate of 3,500 per day, and by 2004 it was painfully obvious that something was seriously wrong with this picture.
